Paul Morrissey, known for his provocative collaborations with Andy Warhol in the late 1960s and early ’70s, passed away in New York at 86. His work, including Flesh, Lonesome Cowboys, and Flesh for Frankenstein, redefined underground cinema by infusing traditional genres with subversive, queer themes that shook mainstream boundaries. Though the films were often polarizing, they developed a loyal following, and Lonesome Cowboys in particular challenged Hollywood norms and stirred up controversy, even attracting FBI scrutiny. Morrissey later claimed he was the primary creative force behind these films, asserting that Warhol's involvement was minimal. After parting ways with Warhol, Morrissey continued directing solo projects. He maintained that his influence helped shape Warhol’s fame and fiercely resisted claims that Warhol was the architect of his success.
