Titled "The Art of Futurama: A Visual History of Matt Groening’s Cult Classic Animated Series", this visually rich book explores the creative process behind the Emmy Award-winning series. Packed with imaginative sketches, background art, and detailed drawings, the book is a collaboration from Groening and the team of talented artists, animators, and writers who brought Futurama to life.

Debuted by Matt Groening during last month’s New York Comic Con, this 112-page hardcover from Abrams ComicArts serves as a comprehensive guide to the show's colorful evolution, featuring commentary from Groening himself, along with series showrunner David X. Cohen and producer Claudia Katz. The book highlights Futurama’s character designs, concept art, and overall journey from storyboard to screen.
Timed to mark the show's 25th anniversary, The Art of Futurama offers fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the first seven seasons, covering all 150 episodes from the show’s original Fox Network debut in 1999 to its continuation through 2013. Readers will discover never-before-seen artwork, early sketches, and a complete episode guide to the groundbreaking series.

Celebrated by TV Guide as one of the Greatest TV Cartoons of All Time, Futurama first aired on Fox in 1999, enjoying a successful four-season run before its first cancellation. It later returned for three additional seasons in 2009, concluding again in 2013. In 2022, Hulu brought Futurama back once more, introducing new adventures and paving the way for future seasons.
In the foreword, Katz reflects on Futurama’s legacy, noting, “When the show premiered on March 28, 1999, it was heralded as one of the best-looking shows on television. This book is a tribute to all the talented artists who helped mold, build, and shape the beautiful, stunning, epic and (twenty-five years later) ever-expanding Futurama Universe."
The Art of Futurama: A Visual History of Matt Groening's Cult Classic Animated Series is now available at bookstores as of November 12 and comic shops as of November 13, 2024.
